Laure Manaudou seizes Women’s 50m backstroke gold – European SC Swimming Championships
Laure Manaudou of France seized gold medal of the Women’s 50m backstroke on day three of the 2012 European Short Course Swimming Championships in Chartres, France on Saturday, November 24.
Manaudou devastated hopes of her opponents in the shortest backstroke discipline as she went full rampant in the playoff to occupy the gold medal.
Manaudou faced strong competition from her closest competitor, Sanja Jovanovic of Croatia, but with her alluring efforts, she managed to ascend on the podium for gold medal.
With her immaculate efforts in the two-lap event, Manaudou succeeded in outsmarting her toughest rival and posted a time of 26.78 seconds for gold medal.
The gold medallist was followed by Jovanovic, who stayed 0.06 seconds slower from her foregoing finisher and surfaced on the finishing end for silver medal by producing a time of 26.84 seconds.
Jovanovic remained 0.13 seconds faster from Simona Baumrtova of Czech Republic, who proved her eligibility for bronze medal of the race by touching the wall with an effort of 26.97 seconds.
Baumrtova was followed by Arianna Barbieri of Italy, who remained only 0.01 seconds slower from her and concluded her race in fourth place by submitting a time of 26.98 seconds.
Her exhausting effort remained just 0.02 seconds ahead of Aliaksandra Herasimenia of Bulgaria, who emerged on the finishing end for fifth position by clocking a time of 27.00 seconds.
Sixth best spot of the event was obtained by Lauren Quigley of Great Britain, who stayed 0.08 seconds apart and ended her race in a time of 27.08 seconds.
Subsequently, Quigley was traced by Cloe Credeville of France, who stayed 0.18 seconds slower from her preceding swimmer and settled on the wall as seventh fastest swimmer by producing a time of 27.26 seconds.
Credeville was trailed by Kira Toussaint of Netherlands, who was 0.11 seconds away from overpowering her former finisher and ended last in the race by reporting a time of 27.37 seconds.
In addition, Manaudou received a huge round of applause from the audience for her remarkable form and stressed that she would continue her hard work to achieve the same at upcoming events.
