Lauren Boyle claims Women’s 800m freestyle gold - FINA Swimming Championships (25m)
Lauren Boyle of New Zealand claimed gold medal of the Women’s 800m freestyle on day two of the 2012 FINA World Swimming Championships (25m) at Sinan Erdem Dome in Istanbul, Turkey, on Thursday, December 13.
Boyle faced no trouble from her opponents in the distant freestyle discipline and remained prominent for the crown.
With her relentless efforts in the playoff, Boyle stayed two and a half body length ahead of her opponents and touched the wall with a wonderful timing of 8 minutes and 08.62 seconds for the title.
Her astonishing pace was 2.37 seconds faster from Lotte Friis of Denmark, who concluded her race in second place by producing a nice time of 8 minutes and 10.99 seconds.
The second position holder was followed by Chloe Sutton of USA, who remained more than four seconds behind but managed to seize third spot of the discipline by clocking an effort of 8 minutes and 15.53 seconds.
Fourth fastest spot of the event was obtained by Hannah Miley of Great Britain, who was 0.56 seconds apart and reached the finishing end with an effort of 8 minutes and 16.09 seconds.
Subsequently, Miley was traced by Erika Villaecija Garcia of Spain, who was 0.81 seconds slower and hit the wall with the timing of 8 minutes and 16.90 seconds for fifth place.
Sixth position of the event was obtained by Rebecca Mann of USA, who was nearly 2.25 seconds behind and concluded her race in a time of 8 minutes and 19.27 seconds.
Mann enjoyed an advantage of 3.61 seconds over Danlu Xu of China, who was unable to make a significant improvement in her pace and completed her race in seventh place by posting a time of 8 minutes and 22.88 seconds.
Last position of the 800m race was obtained by Eleanor Faulkner of Great Britain, who was 0.08 seconds apart and surfaced on the finishing end with the timing of 8 minutes and 22.96 seconds.
In addition, Boyle was pleased with her breath-taking efforts in the 32-lap discipline and raked medal and accolades at the victory ceremony after the session.
