Lauren Davis, Gabriela Dabrowski move to the final qualifier – Challenge Bell 2012
Lauren Davis beats Lena Litvak 7-5, 6-4
Top seed, Lauren Davis, faced limited resistance in downing the 374th ranked player, Lena Litvak, in straight sets 7-5, 6-4 and moving to the final round of the qualifying draw of the Challenge Bell in Quebec City on
Sunday.
Davis required two hours and two minutes to undo Litvak in an evenly contested match.
The all American clash could not be started firmly by any of the two players, as they lost their serve in the first four games to level the proceedings at 2-2. However, both of them adjusted themselves after that, holding in the
following seven to take the score to 6-5 in favour of Davis. The 18-year-old struck at that moment to close out the first set 7-5.
Second set saw the two countrywomen making a stable start, as they did not drop their serve in the first nine games to take the score to 5-4 in favour of Davis. Serving to stay in the contest at that moment, Litvak could not hold
her serve and threw it away 4-6.
Davis will face the eighth seed, Julie Coin of France, in the final round of the qualifying draw.
Gabriela Dabrowski defeats Asia Muhammed 6-2, 6-2
Canada’s Gabriela Dabrowski scored a one sided win over the low ranked American player, Asia Muhammed, to move the third and final match of the qualifying stage.
Dabrowski and Asia began the contest by winning their serve in the first two games to equalise the score at 1-1. The Canadian player stung a break in the third to go up 2-1 but Asia did not take much time to level it at 2-2. It
was all Dabrowski show after that, as she grabbed four on the trot to clinch it 6-2.
Second set went on almost similar patter, as the two players exchanged a break of serve in the first four games to even out the score at 2-2. Dabrowski completely dominated the encounter later on, as she did not allow Asia to claim
even a single game and sealed it 6-2.
The Canadian participant banged in a couple of aces and the same number of double faults in the match. She gave outstanding performance on the second returns, capturing 16 of the 19 points on them. The 20-year-old put away four
of the six break threats she came across and availed six of the nine chances she created on her rival’s serve.
Dabrowski is slated to face the second seeded player from France, Kristina Mladenovic, in the final qualifier.
