Lauren Jackson leads Seattle Storm past Tulsa Shock 74-57 – WNBA Recap
On Thursday night, Lauren Jackson scored a game high 14 points, including nine in the third quarter, as Seattle Storm beat Tulsa Shock 74-57 at Key Arena, handing Tulsa the WNBA-worse their 20th consecutive defeat.
It was third straight victory for Storm, who are third in the Western Conference with a 16-12 record. Jackson also grabbed three rebounds and pinned 2 for 5 shots from downtown while Tanisha Wright added 12 points on 5 for 7 shooting
from the field and dished out three assists in the victory. Camille Little racked up 10 points, stole the ball twice and grabbed two rebounds.
Tiffany Jackson scored 10 of her 12 points in the first half of the game and grabbed nine rebounds in more than 36 minutes to lead the Tulsa scorers. Sheryl Swoopes also added 12 points and pulled down seven rebounds in the loss
and Amber Holt finished the game with 10 points for Tulsa.
Seattle shot 39.3 percent (24 for 61) from the field and 84.6 percent (22 for 26) from free throw line while Shock shot 37.3 percent (22 for 59) from the floor and 100 percent (8 for 8) from the line. Tulsa committed 19 turnovers,
including 13 of them in the first half, and Strom committed just 12. Seattle outscored the visiting team 38-18 in points in the paint.
Seattle held a 16-12 lead with 02:02 to go in the first quarter but Tulsa then answered with a 5-2 run to cut the deficit to one, heading into the second. Storm limited Shock to eight points in the second quarter and carried a
three-point lead, 28-25, into the locker room.
Seattle continued to play a tight defense in the third quarter and outscored Tulsa 28-16, pushing their lead to 15 points, 56-41. They maintained their double-digit lead throughout the fourth quarter and walked away with 12th
home victory of this season.
Seattle Storm will try to secure another win when they face the Los Angeles Sparks on August 28 and if they succeed in doing that, they will overtake Phoenix Mercury for second spot in the West and earn home a court advantage in
the playoffs. With the way things are going for the defending champions, they are certainly emerging as one of the teams to watch out in the WNBA playoffs this season.
