Lauren Sears named in 2011 Capital One Academic All-America Division I Volleyball team
The Ashburn, Virginia native, senior middle blocker (MB) of the Southern Mississippi Women’s Volleyball team, Lauren Sears, managed to find her name on the roster of 2011 Capital One Academic All-America Division I Volleyball second team.
She has been selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). She has emerged as one of the six lucky players, who will play under the tag of second team of Capital One Academic All-America Division I in 2012. The team rosters contains
following players:

Cecilia Agraz – Fresno State Stephanie Figueroa – University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) Jenna Miller – Tennessee Martin Jenilee Rathje – Michigan State Lauren Sears – Southern Mississippi Ariel Turner – Purdue
Sears recently closed the regular season with Golden Eagles of Southern Mississippi and played a big role in overall success of her team. She played at middle-blocker’s position and staged eye-catching action on the net. She helped the Eagles to finish the
season with 17-15 record.
Sears proved her endeavours on the defence side and did equally well in other aspects of the game. She led the Eagles in total blocks, aces, and hitting percentage. Overall she was ranked third on the team in kills.
Sears totally deserved to be considered by the CoSIDA as she did really well in the season. Previously, she had the honour of being named for C-USA All-Academic Team three-times.
Moreover, she was featured on Commissioner's List throughout her career and earned Academic Medal honours as well. The talented Sears is one of two Conference USA student-athlete (Stephanie Figueroa, UTEP) to earn Academic All-America honours, this year.
She is not good on the volleyball court but shines out in the academics. The good records in the game coupled with good academic records enabled Sears to claw her way to the Capital One Academic All-America Division I Volleyball team.
The CoSIDA has strict criteria that student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, in order to qualify for the Division I volleyball team. Sears perfectly fulfilled all the requirements
and earned the honour.
