Lauren Smith and Gabrielle White earn glory in Women’s Doubles category at Welsh International 2012
England’s talented female shuttlers Lauren Smith and Gabrielle White showed a wonderful performance all the way to win Women’s Doubles crown at the Yonex Welsh International 2012 on Sunday, December 2, at Cardiff, Wales.
In the title match, Lauren and Gabrielle displayed their amazing skills in the arena and outplayed Scotland’s Jillie Cooper and Kirsty Gilmour without losing any set.
The impressive Lauren and Gabrielle, who were placed at the top in Women’s Doubles main draw in the championship, played with remarkable precision and demolished the third seeded Jillie and Kirsty while consuming just 33 minutes on court.
Lauren and Gabrielle remained in smashing form throughout the tournament as they played with wonderful confidence and continued their winning streak in the final battle when they easily claimed victory in straight games with a dominating margin.
In contrast, the lower ranked Jillie and Kirsty failed to show a strong character in the arena as they failed to play attacking badminton and also remained struggling to take the bird early.
The third seeded Jillie and Kirsty failed to stop the incredible progress of their in-form challengers and lost the match in a lopsided fashion.
In the opening game, the English players played with outstanding speed and control in their shots and managed to control the affairs from initial rallies.
The unmatched variations in Lauren and Gabrielle’s shots helped them to the maximum and they easily managed to set up a wonderful lead until the break.
After the mid-game interval, the higher ranked Lauren and Gabrielle stayed focused in the arena and remained successful in keeping a comfortable gap.
English shuttlers were quite calm and composed on court and they did not miss any chance to earn points all the way and ended up the set with a crushing margin of 21-7.
In the following set, the top seeded Lauren and Gabrielle played with comfortable and stayed confident in the opening half.
After the break, Lauren and Gabrielle continued putting up perfect show of top class badminton and won the second game with a one-sided 21-14 margin on score board.
The in-form English shuttlers won the Women’s Doubles crown by finishing off the final battle in straight games with a superb total of 21-7 and 21-14.
