Lauren Tininenko and Gage Crosby dominate 100yard butterfly final
- High School State Championships
Bentonville High School’s Lauren Tininenko and Gage Crosby dominated the playoffs of 100yard butterfly in Girls and Boys category respectively on final day of the Arkansas High School State Championships for Boys and Girls in Little Rock on February 25.
Tininenko devastated struggles of her opponents throughout the butterfly discipline and remained prominent for the crown of the event. With her exceptional efforts, she was the only swimmer to finish her race under 1 minute.
She stayed almost one and a half body length ahead of her closest competitor and cemented her place on the medal rostrum for gold medal by clocking a time of 58.45 seconds. She was followed by Corissa Calico of Conway High School, who remained 2.98 seconds
slower from her and earned silver medal of the event with the timing of 1 minute and 01.43 seconds.
Calico stayed almost one second ahead of Mackenzie Mohler of Mountain Home High School, who concluded her race with an effort of 1 minute and 02.81 seconds for bronze medal.
Subsequently, Crosby proved his mettle in the Boys 100yard event, where he stifled his challengers with a 52.62 seconds struggle for gold medal. The champion remained 0.76 seconds faster from William Bryden of Conway High School, who seized second best spot
of the race by producing an effort of 53.38 seconds.
Bryden remained 1.26 seconds ahead of Central Arkansas Christian’s Caleb Hathaway, who settled on the victory stand for third position by posting a time of 54.64 seconds.
In the meantime, Casey Ragsdale of Conway High School captured gold medal of the Girls 100yard freestyle as she ended her sprint in a time of 56.09 seconds.
She was chased by Taylor Hunt of Bentonville High School, who was only 0.13 seconds slower and completed her swim in a time of 56.22 seconds for silver medal. Third fastest spot of the race was secured by Ragsdale’s teammate, Amanda Crnic, who occupied third
position of the event with an effort of 57.10 seconds.
The audience admired ruthless efforts of all participants whereas the winners received accolades at prize distribution ceremony of the championship.
