Lauren Tininenko and Ravi Sun win 100yard backstroke finals -
High School State Championships
Lauren Tininenko of Bentonville High School and Ravi Sun of Arkadelphia High School won gold medals of 100yard backstroke in Girls and Boys class respectively on day two of the Arkansas High School State Championships for Boys and Girls
in Little Rock on February 25.
Tininenko continued her nerve-wrecking form at the two-day tournament. With her unimaginable pace, she was the only swimmer to post a sub one minute effort. Tininenko remained considerably ahead of her competitors all the way through 100yard discipline and
ended first by submitting a time of 58.68 seconds.
She remained in a lead of almost three seconds over her strongest competitor, Lindsey Butler of Bryant Hornets, who stepped on the medal rostrum for silver medal by ending her swim in a time of 1 minute and 01.51 seconds. Similarly, the second position holder
crushed hopes of her closest competitor, Madi Cougill of North Little Rock High School, who obtained third finest spot of the race by reporting a time of 1 minute and 04.34 seconds.
Later, Sun demonstrated his fascinating efforts in the Boys equivalent event. He confronted strong competition from Tyler Crosson of Conway High School throughout the backstroke event and appeared on the victory stand for gold medal with the timing of 51.23
seconds.
Crosson remained just 0.07 seconds slower from overwhelming the efforts of gold medallist and settled on the finishing end for second position by clocking a time of 51.30 seconds. Blake McCauley of Little Rock Catholic High School seized third best spot
of the race as he posted 53.42 seconds.
After that, Jenny Holtzen of Fayetteville High School captured gold medal of Girls 100yard breaststroke discipline in a time of 1 minute and 06.23 seconds. She was trailed by Maddie Edwards of Alma High School, who grabbed silver medal of the event with
an effort of 1 minute and 07.11 seconds.
Edwards remained 0.57 seconds ahead of her following swimmer, Virginia Carr of Camden Fairview High School, who touched the finishing blockade with an effort of 1 minute and 07.68 seconds for bronze medal.
In addition, the championship ended after the conclusion of all panned events.
