Question:

Laurence Maroney or Darren McFadden?

Ok, so I'm in an 8 team league and currently have Maroney as my third running back (Addai, Larry Johnson as other two) and Maroney is the one guy I would avoid at all costs this year. (Our league mistakenly drafted after the commish set the wrong draft date).

My question is, how will Maroney fiar this season? What will the Patriots do on third downs? (Last year they took him out)

I would receive McFadden, and Seattle's defense

I would give up Maroney and Tennessee's defense

Note: A team defense in this league will net your team around 400 points season long.

  1. I'd do that shizzle. The Pats are a passing team, and even with Maroney they have another guy who gets carries too. McFadden will be the unquestioned number one in Oakland, and should be getting a good number of carries. I also like Seattle's D alot.

  2. Buddy

    TAKE MCFADDEN

    THE DUED IS A BEAST

  3. I'll take a stab at this, fortified by third party rankings from footballguys.com.

In non-PPR here are overall position rankings for McFadden and Maroney and the defenses:

    McFadden - #24

    Maroney - #21

    Seattle - #12

    Tennessee -#16

At first pass, what does this say?  It's a very balanced trade.

Both backs have tons of competition.  McFadden has Fargas, and Bush.

Maroney has Lamont Jordan and Sammy Morris.

Oakland was the #6 rushing offense last season, and has a zone-blocking scheme like those of Denver and Houston.

New England was a pass-first team, yet still came in #13.

New England has a ton of injuries on their O-line right now, including key injuries to Neal and Light.

In the end, though I despise banking on a rookie RB, you get the better defense, and potentially a stud in McFadden.  It's risky, but I would probably do it.

You do know I hate preseason trades...

  4. Go with McFadden, his upside makes this trade very much worth it, plus Seattle's defense is one of the best in the NFL.

The Patriots are a pass oriented team, Maroney won't be doing too much with them.

  5. Huggie Bear Jr.? He isn't even in the same ballpark as McFadden when it come to pure talent. The Raiders are going to have a good offense this year, and McFadden is probably going to be the focal point of that offense. Maroney would rank 3ed or 4th on the importance list for the New England offense behind Brady, Moss, and possibly Welker.  Fargas will probably start the season as the starting RB for Oakland, but I bet by game 4 McFadden has at least double the touches that Fargas has.

So yes, do this trade! Tennessee's defense is nothing too special either.

  6. Thats a no brainer...trade trade trade.

  7. keep maroney

everyone is going to try to stop the patriots passing game which will open up massive hole for maroney to run through like he did 2 years ago when he was a fantasy monster

  8. yeah do that pats pass too much
