Laurent Constantin and Sebastien Vincent claim Men’s Doubles title at Estonian International 2012
France’s Laurent Constantin and Sebastien Vincent have won the first Men’s Doubles title of the year by beating higher ranked Jorrit De Ruiter and Dave Khodabux of Netherlands in the final contest of Estonian International 2012 in Estonia, on Sunday, January 15.
Constantin and Vincent, who were the third seeds in Men’s Doubles main draw of the tournament, showed their impressive skills and overpowered the second seeded Dutch pair of Ruiter and Khodabux.
The French shuttlers put up phenomenal show of top class badminton for 60 minutes and won the match in three games with a decent score on the board.
Right from the starting points, Constantin and Vincent played with precision as they disturbed the flow of their rivals with wonderful variations in their strokes. Their positive play forced Dutch shuttlers to commit mistakes by playing negative badminton.
Throughout the opening game of this title match, Constantin and Vincent remained dominant by controlling the pace of rallies and ended it with a decent margin of 21-17.
In the following set, Ruiter and Khodabux played better badminton as they kept the bird low and controlled the pace of game. Both sides entertained the local fans with their fast and attacking play. Until the break, both pairs were quite close on the score board.
After the break, the score again remained tight until the ending phase of the set when Constantin and Vincent could not play positive game and lost it with a close score of 19-21.
In the deciding game, Constantin and Vincent played dominating badminton from the starting points and managed a reasonable lead until the one-minute break. Their killing performance at the net pushed the Dutch pair on back foot.
Constantin and Vincent remained on track in the second half of deciding game and did not let their rivals to fight back in the match.
The flawless play of the French shuttlers helped them to take the final set with a comfortable 21-15 margin on the score board.
This rubber-set final match ended in the favour of Constantin and Vincent, who won it with a 21-17, 19-21 and 21-15.
