Laurent Koscielny believes Premier League is a two horse race
Arsenal defender http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Laurent-Koscielny-c21742 believes that Arsenal and Manchester United are the only two contenders for the Barclays Premier League crown this season.
The Frenchman's comments come in the wake of Arsenal's 2-1 victory against Everton at the Emirates stadium; a win which saw them keep up the pressure on Premier League leaders Manchester United. The Gunners currently lie in second place in the league standings,
five points behind the Red Devils.
Koscielny said, "It looks like we are the last contenders - United are five points ahead of us and they are more points ahead of Chelsea, Manchester City and the others."
The defender conceded that there was little chance of a comeback from those clubs but he believes that, at the moment, only Arsenal stand between Manchester United and the Premier League title. Koscielny added, "Those teams (http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786, Manchester City) can
come back strong as well but we look like we could challenge United."
Arsenal are in a strong position to end their long standing trophy drought. The Gunners are currently competing for not only the Premier League crown, but for the Carling Cup, Champions league and FA Cup trophies as well. However, Koscielny is taking the
season one game at a time.
The defender was instrumental in Arsenal's win against Everton on Tuesday, scoring the decisive goal in the final quarter of the match. He remains optimistic about the Gunner's chances of going on to lift their first Premier League trophy in almost seven
years.
Koscielny said, "We have to keep focused on our games and not look too much at theirs (United). We have to keep winning and hopefully they (United) will drop points at some point. Between now and the end of the season, it's going to be a big fight."
Arsenal face their next test in the League when they go up against Newcastle United on 5th February. Let's see whether they can close in on Manchester United when they visit St. James' Park on Saturday.
