Laurentiis tags Juventus as favourites for the Scudetto and accepts his team’s poor performance against Parma
Napoli President, Aurelio De Laurentiis, believes that Juventus are favourites to win the 2011/12 Serie A season.
The Turin giants are currently leading the league table with 12 points from six games thus far. Udinese have also collected the same number of points and are placed 2nd in the table. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Napoli-c40003 were placed 3rd
in the table but the defeat against Parma over the weekend pushed the down to 5th spot.
Laurentiis admitted that his team played awfully against Parma but believes that his team is facing a different kind of situation this season. The 62-year-old admitted that the team is not used to challenge for two major trophies
in the past, so it would take time for them to settle.
The Partenopei chief added that his team was distracted by the upcoming UEFA Champions League clash and could not focus on the game against Parma. The 62-year-old admitted that his plays like Champions one day and falls into pieces
the other day.
Laurentiis added, “Napoli, in my mind, need to always be a team that grows. However, there will always be great performances and those like we gave against Parma. I expected games like that. They had more hunger than us, whereas
we already had our minds turned to the Champions League.”
The movie mogul admitted that Juventus are favourites to win the Scudetto as they do not have any European commitments and their focus will only be on the league.
“That’s why Juventus have a great advantage over the other Scudetto candidates this season. They can focus on just the League given that they are not involved in Europe.”
The Neapolitan have prioritized the UEFA Champions League over rest of the competitions and have started the campaign very well. Napoli have picked up four points in the two games played in the competition thus far and are placed
second in their group. They will play their next European game against Bayern Munich on Tuesday, October 18, 2011.
