Laurie Hug clinches Women’s 1500m freestyle gold – 2012 Marriott USMS Summer Nationals
Laurie Hug of 1776 clinched gold medal of the Women’s 1500m freestyle in the age class of 45-49 year old on initial day of the 2012 Marriott USMS Summer Nationals at the CenturyLink Center Omaha on Thursday, July 5.
The 47-year-old Hug displayed her astonishing skills in the distant freestyle event and earned top spot on the podium for gold medal.
She went full rampant in the thirty-lap race and tapped the finishing blockade for gold medal with the timing of 18 minutes and 40.27 seconds.
Her gold winning effort remained almost forty-five seconds slower from the world record of 17 minutes and 55.83 seconds, owned by S Heim-Bowen of USA during 2003.
The gold medallist enjoyed a benefit of nearly fifteen seconds over Jill E Gellatly of COOG, who proved her mettle for second position of the discipline by submitting a time of 18 minutes and 55.86 seconds.
The silver medallist was trailed by Marianne Countryman of GAJA, who stayed nearly forty seconds apart and secured bronze medal of the discipline by producing a time of 19 minutes and 36.13 seconds.
Following that, the crowd witnessed stupendous efforts of Ellen K Bennett of SYSM, who stayed almost nineteen seconds away from overpowering the third position holder and finished fourth in the discipline with the timing of 19 minutes and 55.77 seconds.
Fifth finest spot of the race was secured by Kimberly D Elsbach of DAM, who stayed nearly four seconds slower from improving her position and clocked an effort of 19 minutes and 59.47 seconds.
The 49-year-old Elsbach was chased by Jutta Schickore of DOC, who stayed just 2.01 seconds apart and secured sixth position of the discipline by submitting a time of 20 minutes and 01.48 seconds.
Seventh position of the event was obtained by Heather Hagadorn of CMS, who reported an effort of 20 minutes and 56.57 seconds while T Sorenson of MVN ended eighth in the event with the timing of 21 minutes and 35.02 seconds.
Furthermore, Hug was contented with her performance in the 1500m event and said that she will try to defend her title at the forthcoming tournaments.
