Laurynas Grigelis slams Clement Reix in straight sets in final qualifier – Farmers Classic 2011
The second last match of the final qualifiers of the Farmer Cup 2011 went off between Clement Reix, the Frenchman, and Laurynas Grigelis of Lithuania. The match was played at the LA Tennis Centre in Los Angeles with a huge roaring
crowd showing their passion for the game. The two setter match ended up with the Lithuanian wining and clearing to the main draws.
The 27-year-old Frenchman, Clement Reix, has been a satisfying player all along. Although his rankings have not impressed much, he is a surprise at times. Ranked as world No.276, the Frenchman considers hard and clay courts as
his speciality. The right hander has played a total of 183 matches altogether and has been 50 percent successful of the total number.
Playing against the Frenchman was the rising Lithuanian Laurynas Grigelis. The young sensation made a strong impact in the previous qualifier as he won on straight sets against Phillip Simmonds to make it this far. The 19-year-old
right hander has a world ranking of No.243 better than that of the French rival.
Kicking off with the first game of the opening set, the Lithuanian made the scorecards roll for the first time in the match 1-0. The match took off steadily as both players seemed comfortable on the hard circuit.
However, in this case, the Lithuanian had himself booted up to spank the Frenchman. The young Lithuanian made impact as he won two breakpoints and led the set to his win. With 77 percent of his 1st serve winner and 64
percent of the 2nd, the 19-year-old totalled 29 points including 17 service points and 12 returners to bag the set 6-2 and lead 1-0 in the match.
The second set was the decider for the Frenchman as he had no other option but to win the set. However, the Lithuanian exploded in the second set with a larger bang. Crushing all hopes for the Frenchman, Laurynas won the second
set as if he was playing a 2-year-old kid. He lost no breakpoints and went on winning with perfection. Winning a total of 33 points, he secured 18 service points and 15 returners.
Totalling 62 points in the match, Laurynas took away the match beating the French 6-2 and 6-3. Laurynas took roughly 1 hour and 5 minutes to end the match.
The Lithuanian now sits in the main draw to play against Alejandro Falla from Columbia in the opening match.
