Question:

Lavender blooming time in Provence?

My wife really wants to go to the Provence and see the lavender fields in bloom. Unfortunately we can only go the last week of may, and lavender might not yet have bloomed at the time. Does anybody know around what time the lavender start blooming? And could it be that it starts early this year due to very mild winter?

  1. Hi !

the blooming season stretches from april to may, depending on the location and altitude.

Travelling to Provence in May is quite a good season to see fields in bloom, even if we had a mild winter -although it's been chilly since a few days now, winter's really here !

Here's a link on which are displayed the main lavender production areas :

  2. Hello, If you go to Provence end of May, you can go to the "Plateau de Valensole" were the lavender plantations are blooming everywhere. It is so beautiful to see and smell. Valensole village organise each year the famous "fete de la lavande" but it is in july, at the end of the blooming when the agricultors cut down the flowers.

    I hope that help you.

    Enjoy Provence !

  3. You should consider a trip in mid-June or until mid-July at the latest.

The Lubéron area is the best one for that. I went there last summer in July and it was amazingly beautiful !

For this year I guess everything is 'upside down' because of the mild winter we have (we had 20° in mid January and winter has just arrived...).

    Have fun there !
