Lavrans Solli wins Men’s 100m back-stroke gold medal - 2011 Norway Long Course Championships

Lavrans Solli of Bergens SC dominated the Men’s 100m back-stroke final on the fourth day of the 2011 Norway Long Course Championships.
The 18-year-old Solli, who made the record of the 50m back-stroke earlier at the championships, missed the mark of the 100m event with a difference of just 0.52 seconds. He won the gold medal of the two-lap race, by posting a stupendous time of 56.97 seconds.
The national mark of the 100m back-stroke is still owned by Tom Karlsen, who won the gold medal in the same event in 1999.
The gold medallist was followed by Runar Borgen of Tromso SK/NTG, who stayed 0.50 seconds behind him and touched the finishing wall for silver medal, by clocking in a time of 1 minute and 00.47 seconds. The third spot on the podium was secured by Christian
Christiansen of Kristiansund SLK/NTG, who remained only 0.36 seconds behind Borgen and posted a third fastest time of 1 minute and 00.83 seconds. The 16-year-old Christiansen edged out his following swimmer, John Hage Gaarder with a difference of only 0.09
seconds and secured the third fastest spot.
Gaarder of Lørenskog/Rælingen, who failed to overcome Christiansen’s bronze winning effort, finished his two-lap swim in a fourth fastest time of 1 minute and 00.92 seconds. The 16-year-old Henrik Wathne of Bærumsvømmerne followed him on the podium for the
fifth best spot of the race, by submitting a nice time of 1 minute and 02.02 seconds.
He was 0.016 seconds away from his closest competitor, Armin Porobic of Lambertseter SK, who completed his swim with a sixth fastest timing of 1 minute and 02.18 seconds. Porobic was followed by Gaarder’s team-member, Vebjørn Lindhjem, who reported a time
of 1 minute and 02.56 seconds. Markus Lie of BS/Astveit was the eighth fastest swimmer of the meet, as he ended his swim in a time of 1 minute and 02.60 seconds.
The arena acknowledged the amazing swims of all participants who contested with each other, to secure a podium finish in the 100m event.
