Hi, sorry for so many posts but, i wanted to ask if even though you don't get arrested or put on probation, or sentenced to any Juvie/Jail time, Can we still expunge/ seal a criminal record if someone had been convicted of a misdemeanor for Battery. I'm sure you all know my story but here it is again. A few months back 16 year old friend went up to another kid at school (also 16) and punched him in the face for no real reason. He was charged with the title "Battery" and got a misdemeanor. He has not gotten into any trouble before and after this incident occurred. We live in California. Please help. I've heard that your record gets cleared when you reach 18? Please keep in mind that my friend Did not get arrested, put on probation, gone to juvie, Jail. He had only paid a fine. Anyone know? Thanks you guys, LOVE from Cali, for assisting me in previous times. By the way, my friend's "Dream-Job" Is Biochemical engineering. If he doesn't get his misdemeanor cleared can he still become that?

  1. juvie records are sealed as soon as he turns 18 - then its like nothing ever happened. You dont have to request it, it just happens. As long as he keeps his "new" record clean, he'll be just fine. Even then, he could still get a misdi or two and still be able to get a job as a biolochemical engineer. Nothing to worry about.

  2. You can get your juvie record cleared after you turn 18.  But it is by request and a judge has to approve it.  If he only had to pay a fine and nothing else, he plead to an infraction.  So it is not a misd.

  3. Yes, the record will be cleared at 18.

  4. He was charged and convicted, but neither arrested nor sentenced?  Wow, I will never fully comprehend the juvenile justice system!  I was able to search for the answer though it was difficult to find due to someone who keeps trolling with so many redundant posts.
