Law and regulation of driving a vehicle with a left hand side weel in the UK?

Hi,

I am looking to purchase a vehicle with a left hand side weel, register the car and drive it in the UK. Can anyone please tell me if I am allowed to do so or only right hand side weels are permited on the road in the UK.

No problem at all - I regularly drive a left hand drive car in the UK when I drive over from the continent.

However, any car you buy abroad will have to be imported, so you will have to pay import tax and register the car in the UK. That is all quite complicated but has nothing to do with the left hand drive.

My friend just imported a Mustang from the States and had to have the lights altered for use on our roads including having side indicators fitted which are not a requirment in the US. Then has to have a rigorous MOT for brakes and emmissions to be sure they meet EU regulations.But the steering wheel is no problem

Providing the car is roadworthy, it is taxed and MOT'd, it doesn't matter whether it is a left hand or a right hand drive.

yes left hand drives are allowed over here the only thing you have to make sure of is you have english head lights as left hand drives shine into on coming cars on our roads and the rear fog light and reversing light are the wrong side of the back of the car.

Yes, left hand drive cars are legal in the UK, that said, my dad had one and it was an absolute death trap when trying to see to overtake etc.

it is allowed but does make it very difficult to overtake anything because you can not see ahead of them.

We drive our LHD French car in England, slowly and carefully.

Thought ALL cars had left hand side wheels - wouldn't they fall over if they didn't ?

Yea thats perfectly acceptable with UK law, there are many drivers on the roads who drive left hand sided cars.

none aslong as the import papers are in order & you have valid mot insurance & road tax
