Law regarding U-turns in NSW?

Question

Is there a law regarding U-turns that u can do one at ANY intersection? I got pulled over by the police by doing a U-turn at a traffic light, there wasn't a "No U-Turn" sign. I got fined $185 dollars. The policeman claimed that there is now a law that you can not U-turn at ANY intersection and i should have known. If there is such a law, i'll be happy to pay the fine, but is no such law exists, i think i'll consider appealing.

U Turns Are Not Permitted At Intersections With Traffic Lights Unless There Is A Sign Specifying That U-turns Are Allowed At That Particular Intersection.

I beleive that is consistent around Australia. U-turns are prohibited at traffic lights UNLESS there is a U-turn permitted sign.

Search out rule # 37a, # 37b, # 38, # 39 (1), # 39 (2), # 40, # 141, # 42, # 42 (a) and # 42 (b).

I have been pulled over in the US for making an intersection U-turn.  it turns out there were signs, but they were about half way down the block in either direction.  I didn't get a ticket, just a warning.
