  1. I enjoyed the experience but then, I didn't have to pay for it - tuition reimbursement.  Afterward, jobs are scarce, the hours are ungodly long, the pressure to produce billable hours is unconscionable and the work can be tedious.  Also, where you go to school everything.  If your school is not Tier I, life after law school is tough.

If you are considering it, get a job in a law firm first and take a look at the profession from the inside.  The tuition is soooo high, you do not want to take on this kind of debt without knowing exactly what you are getting into.

  2. I just observed while my husband went to law school.

He worked at his studies at least 60 hours a week, usually more like 80. There's an enormous amount of reading to do, and you have to be able to extract what's important from it without help. Summers, he reviewed, and worked full time.

It was the loneliest three years of my life--until the end, when the baby we could not afford arrived.

In your third year, law firms come calling at the school, seeking the cream of the crop, and interviewing is quite stressful. Your studies don't let up, of course. If you were not among those hired, finding work is difficult, especially if you're limited geographically.

And of course you still have to take the Bar Exam.

So if you really want to practice law, this can be a great thing to do, but if you just think it would be okay, consider the amount of effort involved.
