Lana lawless has won the case against LPGA for not letting her play in an event staged in California.
The former police officer filed a case in the Federal Court against the LPGA, as they did not allow her to compete as per the rules of the association. Lawless is a transgender and she was not female at birth. The LPGA took a notice of this and said that
the petitioner did not fulfill the criteria for contention.
However, on the’ Transgender Day of Remembrance’, the LPGA decided to lift the ban and set a board meeting in which the issue was debated upon. The Ladies Professional Golf Association decided that transgenders had an equal right as that of a female at birth.
Lawless finally has a chance of playing next to Melissa Reid and Laura Davies in a tournament. However, the 57-year-old is not ready to lift the charges and her attorney will be filing another petition to recover the damages claimed by her.
However, at another place a rumour has been leaked that negotiations are being held between the two parties. LPGA will be holding a ballot box on 30th November. If two-thirds of the female professionals vote in favour of Lawless, she will be awarded
the grant.
In response to the rumour, Lawless’s attorney said, "When they told me they were going to put this up to a vote of their members, I said that's insane. To put whether you want to continue to discriminate to a vote, that is insane. It would be similar, in
another time, to voting on whether you want to let black people into your organisation. From my perspective, the law's perfectly clear.”
In late October, Lana Lawless submitted her name for the Long Drivers Competition. The Californian went into court under State Law for being refused. The transgender sued the LPGA and claimed several damages according to the PGA tour official website. Lawless
has won the case and from now on transgenders will be allowed to compete with normal females on the same tee spots. However, a question remains unanswered: how will females meet the power drives of the transgenders, especially those who have been medically
changed?
