Question:

Lawn Mower - Is it normal for the blade to be slightly angled upward for Mulching?

I have a standard lawn mower that allows for mulching of grass...i notice when i set the height of the cut (via the wheels) to the 3rd notch (equating to 3 inches above ground) and then measure the height of the blade with a ruler i notice that the "front wheels" elevate the mower to about 3inches off the ground while the "back wheels" elevate the blade to 2.5 inches off the ground...Strange because i figured when you set the wheel height the same way (back and front) it should have the blade at the same height ... it appears the blade is cutting the grass at an inclined angle, where the front is angled upward by 0.5 inches higher than the back....

Is this normally how grass is properly mulched or should the blade be elevated exactly the same height (front and back @ 3 inches) when mulching?

  1. the blade is on a angle for after mulching it throws it out or into the bag but it will be able to mulch it up easier. this is normal for a standard mower. Can i have best question?

  2. Has nothing to do with mulching. It allows the tall grass to enter the blades "slowly". The grass is being cut at the front of the mower and then trimmed down to a lower height as you proceed. In other words, you aren't cutting the tall grass all at once. The angle also creates a wind tunnel so the clippings are repeatedly cut smaller.
