Question:

Lawn Mower White smoke!!?

A couple days ago I started mowing the lawn and everything was going good until this white smoke came out the side. It was an old machine so I went to go buy a new one yesterday. Last night I used it in the backyard and it worked perfectly, today I used it in the front lawn for about ten minutes, after dumping the grass, checking the oil, and putting in new gas, I turned it on and the d**n white smoke came out! I turned it off, waited a couple minutes and tried again. Anyone know how what the problem is and how to fix it? The smoke is coming out of the muffler in case it matters.

  1. Sounds like a common problem with both mowers.  Have you checked your gas container?  Is it possible that there is oil in it?  Or are you reading the dipstick wrong and putting too much oil in the engines?

  2. leaking oil off the engine.

  3. The rings on the piston are probably bad allowing the oil to seep into the firing chamber. The blue smoke is oil burning.

If it's the new machine, take it back where you got it. It has problem.

  4. sounds as though your spark plug may need to be replaced, which is no big deal. Your plug tip might be too short to burn the fuel properly. If it was blue, acrid smoke, you either have over filled the oil tank or the head gasket is about to go. But white smoke means the engine is good, but your ignition system is out of adjustment. Not a big deal. Go to an auto parts store or wal mart and get another plug, be sure it is gapped properly too.
