Question:

Lawn Tractor / Riding Lawnmower - Are *all* Capable of Mulching?

I'm considering purchasing a *used* Roper lawn tractor with a 44" cutting deck, 14HP,twin cyl engine. See: http://kijiji.ebayimg.com/i6/07/k/000/7b/33/0bbd_20.JPG?set_id=1C4000

Can you tell me can this lawn tractor and all lawn tractors be *upgraded* to support MULCHING of my suburban home lawn? My understanding is mulching is about HP, blade shape, and a closed shoot. Can this and all lawn tractors be easily upgraded to handle this.

Thanks.

  1. HP means nothing, to detirmine the power of the engine you look at torque.  Most mowers cut the grass up fine however there is an optional mulching kit available on most mowers which basically has you modify the mower deck so the grass blades get chewed up more.  They will also be deposited directly beneath the mower instead of being thrown out the side.

Take the model number of the mower and use it to search for mulching kits online, they should be available but may be hard to find for that perticular mower.
