  1. last summer we went into full blown drought so i just added some flexible hose to my washing machine and caught the water in a HUGE trashcan and would let it settle to get the soap to the bottom of the bucket and would water my plants and grass with the water i caught. it worked great and my neighbors could not figure out how i was always managing to water my lawn. Later i found a place that actually sold rain barrel that would catch the water and even had a little spigot on it so you could hook up a hoes to it.

  2. your grass is not dying it is going dormant that's what grass does when the right conditions happen IE rain and cooler temps the grass will rebound and grow again. My grass will brown down end of July and into Aug when it starts to rain end of Aug my grass greens up better than my neighbours who have lawn sprinklers going all summer(don't even get me started on that)People need to give it a rest on a green lawn why waste the city treated water on the lawn

  3. Depends on your plumbing setup and how handy you are.  We've used the water from our washing machine for years to water our garden using little more than an empty 55 gallon barrel and a cheap submersible dirty water sump pump. A second drain line was added that delivered the waste water (AKA grey water) to the barrel under the back deck.  The sump pump was in the barrel and attached to a garden hose which turned on when the wash was just about to finish.  We let the water run on the ground in the garden but the system can be attached to a sprinkler if you install a screen filter before the water enters the barrel. If you don't the fibers from the clothes will clog the sprinkler.   The bigger the pump the more pressure it can make.  We went with a cheap setup and spent about $35 on the system.  There is no reason why the system won't work with other drains. My thoughts are that wash and shower water will be easier to deal with.  Kitchen sink water tends to have a lot of food debris that can cause a bad smell.

  4. A)  it would be hard to use.  and rather expensive probably.

    B)  if you're not using all biodegradable soap, and detergent, it would not be good for your lawn.

    C)  once it does go down the drain, it gets mixed with other stuff you probably don't want on your lawn.  i mean, it might be good fertilizer, but there's be a odor that you'd not like, not to mention the complaints you'd get from your neighbors.  (and the flies it would attract.)

On the other hand, i suppose you could set up a shower in your front yard, using your hose .....  okay, never mind, just kidding.  ;-)

  5. shower/tub and laundry water contains soap which can kill your grass.  other than running a syphon hose in a bathtub...not sure a way to economically conservative with the water...short of replumbing your piping.
