Lawn mower keeps turning off?

We have a troy-bilt self-propelled lawn mower thats almost brand new, we just bought it this summer. The oil and gas tanks are both full, but it won't stay on. We can get it started, but once we start mowing the lawn it just shuts off, without sputtering or anything. Does anybody know what might cause this?

  1. sounds like the safety switch for the mower is going bad check all the plugs for loose connections

  2. Sounds like a cut off switch is bad or the spark plug.

  3. It's strange that this is happening on a new model.  The best advice I can give you is to make an appointment with your retailer and have them fix it.  This could be a multitude of problems and is probably something simple.  Since it's as new as you say it is, there is probably some kind of warranty.  Let someone who is specialized work on it rather than trying all kinds of things that probably are not the problem.

  4. When you say "once we start mowing", do you mean even if you go REALLY slowly?

It would help in the troubleshooting to know if it stalling because it cannot handle the load, or if it's stalling due to being bumped around, jerked back and forth and/or vibrating like it typically would be while mowing.

I mean, ALL mowers will stall if the grass is a foot high and you push it too fast.

  5. put in a new spark plug and clean or replace the air filter

  6. Spark plug.

Check the connection or change if needed.
