Question:

Lawn mower repair, carburator?

I have a newer push mower and has been running good. It does not seem to want to start. It is a 4 horse briggs motor. Pump the primer bulb and it will start and run the couple seconds until the gas is burned up. If you just pump the primer bulb it will stay running. I know it is good gas with no water. what is the problem?

  1. If the engine says "quattro" or "sprint" the problem is either the carb/tank gasket or the pick up screen is clogged. Both require the removal of the tank/carb ***'y and inspection. After you remove the carb look for a warped gasket or clogged screen. Repair as required. Good luck.

  2. Two things come to mind, both of which I have had lately. My mower did the same thing. First I took it in and had the carb cleaned.  Ran great but then started acting up again. Second time it was a dirty air filter, replaced it and been going good since. Good luck.

  3. sounds like the low idle jet...just take out the idle screws(brass) and clean out with carb cleaner...good luck

  4. If the carburetor sits directly on the fuel tank the most likely issue is the diaphram that is between the two.  You can replace the diaphram and gasket for about $5.00.
