Wait 15 minutes, starts again, stops after a few minutes. Has new fuel filter, enough oil, fresh gas. no vibrations. Carb problem?

  1. More likely it's  an air vent in the fuel tank problem. Besides that is the easiest to check and fix. Remove the gas tank cap and verify that the vents are clear and the air is getting in to the tank.  If it is a pressurized tank, then the pressure line to the tank is suspect. The system needs air to push the fuel into the carburetor.

  2. I had a push mower do that once...turned out to be a clogged vent hole in the gas cap. If the vent hole is plugged and the cap is on tight, as the gas is used up in the tank, it creates a vacuum since no air can get in and eventually stops the flow of gas and the motor. Try checking the cap for a plugged vent or leave the cap a little loose and run it for a while to see if the problem stops.

  3. the next time you use it and it sputters to a stop check for spark at the plug right away. If you have spark at that moment then its a fuel problem. But if you have no spark then maybe the coil is the problem.
