Question:

Lawnmower puffing white smoke?

I have a 17HP tecumseh motor in a huskee mower. I recently had a carb issue where no gas was getting into the carb. After a cleaning, it gets in fine but spews out white smoke. Not able to throttle up all the way and leaves oil splattered below it. What needs to be replaced and approx. how much. Thanks

  1. its broken smart one!

  2. White or blue smoke while running may be an indication of an excessively worn cylinder or rings or a clogged or inoperative breather (the breather assures that there is always negative pressure in the crankcase - if not, oil can get forced up into the cylinder). Or, you may be using the fuel mixture for your 2 stroke weed whacker by mistake!

    Good Luck

  3. i'd say you have oil mixing with gas

  4. Sounds like the rings on the pistons need replaced, probably time to overhaul the engine.or buy a new one.

  5. Yeah, i would check for too much oil .

  6. did you tip it over to clean it???

  7. Have you check the oil level in the crankcase?  Sounds like you might have too much oil and it is coming out of the crankcase vent.  It vents near the carburetor.  As far as not being able to get to full throttle indicates to me that you still have a carburetor issue.  Cleaning consists of removal, disassembly, soaking in solvent, and installing a rebuild kit.  Anything less is usually a waste of time.
