Lawnmower running funny!?

Question

My lawnmower just recently started running funny.....it cuts the grass fine but it runs, hesitates, runs, hesitates and on and on. It sounds kinda like it's taking a breath....you know, it runs, sounds briefly like it's gonna quit then runs again, sounds like it's gonna quit etc....any ideas???

sounds like it is running too lean,at the carburetor turn the small adj s***w to the left slowly until lit runs better,make sure your filters aren't dirty.

Hard to tell without hearing it. Could be a dirty carb, fuel/air mixture needs adjusting or choke needs adjusting. Check the spark plug also.

it sounds as though the carb governer spring either popped off or broke.Some models also had a air rudder under the top engine shroud that sensed engine speed as part of the governer assy. I've found these broken off(plastic) causing the engine to rev up and down.

Mine does that when I wait too long to cut my grass. If your grass size is not the cause, then check the air filter and your fuel mixture s***w adjustment. Maybe it`s running too rich or too lean. Running rich will give you black or gray smoke. Running lean will only give you what you are getting without any unusual smoke. Your spark plug may be fouled or the wire going to it is loose. You could also have sediment in the fuel bowl where the float and metering valve are located.

i have the same problem yearly

take the carb off and take it apart, remember where everything goes, then clean it and blow through all the jets and any holes you see--put it back together and it should be fine---one grain of dirt can clog the jets in the carb !!!
