Lawrence Frank possesses all the abilities to take Detroit Pistons on the top – NBA Update
With the selection of Lawrence Frank as their new head coach, the long search finally came to an end for the Detroit Pistons. With Lawrence, the Pistons believe that they have chosen the right person for the job.
Lawrence is no short of coaching experience. He became the coach of the New Jersey Nets at the age of just 33, when the Nets President Rod Thorn gave him his first break. Later, he served the Boston Celtics as an assistant coach.
Thorn, who is now in the Philadelphia 76ers organization said about Frank recently,
"Lawrence did a great job for us both as an assistant and a head coach. I think he knows as much basketball as anybody you're going to see. I think he's always prepared. You'll always see him be prepared every game you go into.
I always felt that we might lose, but we weren't going to get outcoached. He's a good guy, a good guy to deal with. ... I think he and Joe (Dumars) will work very well together, and I think it's a good hire by the Pistons."
It would be a challenge for Frank to put the Pistons back on the track, as the team ended up on the 11th spot in the Eastern Conference standings with a 30-52 record. In addition to that, the Pistons failed to register
a berth in the playoffs from the last two seasons.
Moreover, Frank also has to negotiate with the vulnerable roster that had some serious clashes with the previous head coach John Kuester. As a result of these clashes, Detroit’s performance affected pretty badly and the team failed
to put up a good fight in the end.
Frank has the ability and experience to make this team into a winner. His credibility goes a long way and over the years, he has established a reputation of a perfectionist. This must have been the major attraction for the Detroit’s
owner Tom Gores and President of Basketball Operation Joe Dumars to rope in Frank.
Besides, his ability to tackle the players, Frank also possesses some excellent defensive tactics. During his time with the Celtics, Frank worked on the defensive side of the team. Under his watch, the C’s were rated the best defensive
unit in the league as they allowed 91.1 points on average and the second best in field goal defence at 43.4 percent.
Although he was fired from the Nets, it was nothing of his own doing as the Nets traded most of their key players late in his tenure. He blossomed truly while at Boston and if he can impart the same team attitude to the once bad
boys of the league, we might have a new powerhouse in the league very soon.
