  2. The Convection zone, commencing at +0.07 solar radii, is made of three related parts using convection to carry the energy towards the surface. Deepest are the Giant Cells of about 200,000 Km, next come the Super-Granular Cells of about 30,000 Km in diameter, finally the top layer of cells perhaps 1,000 Km across and 2,000 Km deep. Heat carried upward is transferred to the photosphere. Cooler material sinks downward until heated sufficiently to begin rising upward once more.
