Laying hens??

Question

My niece recently got 2 laying hens and they lay eggs but they peck them apart by morning. Does anyone know why they might be doing this?

well it might be very hard for hens for not to peck their eggs,because they got the taste.but you can try,to guard them as they go to lay the egg,and keep on watching ,as they finish laying then be quick to hush them and remove the egg.and same with the other hen too.may be after few days the will be used to not pecking them.the second idea to save the egg from the hen for not to peck is make the egg laying sight or the basket two story and make a slightly slope which lead to the bottom pan,in such a way that as hen lay the egg it rolls down through the slope to the ground basket which should be very nicely padded so egg should not crack or break.                                                                                             by the way where are you located? i want my three beautiful egg laying hen and a very beautiful rooster to give away for foster caring by the time i have to go out of state for few weeks to few months.i live in Miami and every one in my neighborhood is willing to take all four of them  and also willing to pay me but i know they all want to make soup or grill to eat.that breaks my heart.i live all by myself and the people who can take care to help me they are not allowed to keep the rooster or hen as a pet in their house .any suggestion about this regards will be appreciated.put yourself in my place and think what will you do,with your pet birds, if you have to go for  a long trip ? as my email address for direct contact :[e-mail]

Try getting some plastic eggs to put in the nest box. Once they realize they can't be broken they should quit trying. On the other hand, once hens discover how delicious eggs are it can be very hard to stop them. Check for eggs often and remove them before they're broken.
