Question:

Laying large concrete slab & stoping weeds etc .... ?!?

1) anyone laid a large concrete slab before? Do you have any suggestions?

I need to lay a slab approx 12' x 30'. I know I need to lay hardcore and tamp it down with a plate vibrator before laying the concrete on top (obviously with formwork) - anything else to consider?

The slab is to be used for standing an old aircraft on and storage of brums etc - so does not need to be particularly load bearing.

2) Anyone got any idea on how to stop weeds coming up between the kerb and the tarmac - this is a major problem for us - I have tried filling the area with drymix mortar - but this has failed - I was thinking of tar or some sort of weather proof sealant. - anyone please?

  1. You might try leaving a gap with thin plywood then when the concrete is cured pull out the plywood and fill a silicon adhesive or I'm sure there is a product special for this purpose I see it in sidewalks and parking lots everywhere just don't know the name of it.

  2. Go to your local garden centre and ask for weed killer that will keep it down
