Question:

Laying sod over damaged lawn?

by  |  earlier

The lawn at my house is 90% weeds and 10% dead grass. I want to lay sod, what is the best way to go about doing this? Do I have to pull up all the old "grass" first?

I'm selling my house at the end of this month, so I'm looking for a quick fix to add curb appeal. Thanks!

  1. first put down 2-3 inches of topsoil, water it down and then get good sod over top of that. Be sure to check with municipality to ensure you are still on grade.

  2. Don't bother with re-sodding. Use Patch Perfect:

  3. I guess you mean "turf", ie. grass ready-grown on strips of soil?

You're in for a bit of aerobic exercise!

Take a good spade and strip all the bad lawn off. Don't pull it, take off the top (3 or 4 inch) layer of soil + grassroots. If you're left with weed stumps, spot-weed them with a glyphosate weedkiller.

Put down a layer of topsoil and water it well.

Then buy your "sod" and lay it carefully - the supplier should tell you how, or get instructions off the Net.

Water well, and keep off it.

All best wishes for your move!
