Laynce Nix doubles as Philadelphia Phillies edge out Colorado Rockies 3-2 - MLB Update

Pinch hitter Laynce Nix doubles late in the innings as the Philadelphia Phillies beat the Colorado Rockies 3-2 on September 7, 2012 at Citizens Bank Park, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in the first match of the three game series.
The Rockies leaped to a two-run lead in the first as they set the stage for the Phillies’ defeat.
The fact the former kept the latter scoreless through the end of the sixth made it easier to believe that Philadelphia will not win. This was more so in light of the fact that Phillies were struggling hard to get their base-runners aboard throughout the
game.
However, thanks to a double in the bottom of the seventh by the pinch hitter Nix, Philadelphia managed to tie the score. Thereafter, they added one more run in the ninth, leaving Rockies scratching their heads in disappointment over losing after coming so
close to victory.
Jonathan Papelbon was impressive in the last inning. Due to the same reason, he earned the win. The time when he stepped on the mound the leakage of one run will have meant the defeat of the side.
In light of this it is easy to understand why Cliff Lee was not accorded the victory despite the fact he struck-out seven in little more than six innings on Friday.
Lee hopes to see the Phillies continue improving their winning percentage and end the season on a high. Lee however is conscious of the fact that his club is out of contention at the moment and only thing they can do now is to prepare for the upcoming year.
"Hopefully we can continue and finish this year out strong," Lee said.
Phillies’ manager Charlie Manuel is happy with the current success of his team after they experienced the slump a couple of months ago. The addition of Chase Utley and Ryan Howard has certainly helped them offensively.
"That's kind of the way it goes," Charlie Manuel said. "I guess we have to keep at them."
Phillies will be looking to keep their momentum going in order to win all three games in the series.
Their manager will be hoping for better performances from his starting pitchers in the upcoming matches.
