Lazio defender Stefan Radu scouted by http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Barcelona-c38604 – La Liga News
The transfer window closed barely a month ago but this has not stopped the rumour mill from churning new material. According to Romanian publication, Libertatea, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Lazio-c39775 defender Stefan Radu is attracting the attention of Barcelona, who eye him as a replacement
for Eric Abidal.
The Romanian international is a central defender by nature and is also comfortable playing in the left-back position. In his short footballing career, he has already been likened to compatriot and Serie A rival, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Cristian-Chivu-c9519.
With Chivu playing in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Italy-c2926 for over eight years now, his international teammate is making all the right noises. He, too, started his career like his older friend, in Rome, but Lazio were his preferred destination.
Radu’s performances have improved over the years and he has been a revelation in the current campaign. The 3.5 million Euros signing from Dinamo Bucharest is outgrowing his club of three years.
Barcelona are interested in Radu to take over the duties from experienced French left-back Eric Abidal. The 32-year-old is waning in his abilities and his constant fight with injuries is a nightmare for Pep Guardiola.
Stefan is looked as the natural long term replacement, however, the transfer fee quoted is a big stumbling block for the Catalan team. A fee of around 20 million is being flaunted in the market.
Barcelona are not the only club high on the heels of the Romanian international. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 and Real Madrid are also keeping tabs on his situation while a move to Paris Saint-Germain cannot be downplayed either.
With all the big guns reporting their interest in Radu, the price is surely going to go up. Addition of PSG into the mix has raised the bar for competing clubs as matching the deep pockets of the new owners will be difficult to match for anyone.
However, according to the Romanian’s agent, Victor Becali, nothing concrete is going on.
"As far as I am concerned there is nothing going on at the moment", commented Becali when pressed on the growing transfer talk.
"The player and I haven’t talked to PSG and president [Claudio] Lotito either." Becali added.
This statement comes on the back of a previous comment in which the player stated his determination to stay with the Roman club.
"Stefan loves Lazio, so much so that he has told me he wants to end his career in Rome", said Becali to Radio Mana Mana.
Radu switching to Barcelona seems unlikely, but the Catalan club managed to outsmart Manchester City for http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Alexis-Sánchez-c4979 and a repeat does not seem outrageous.
