Lazio manager Edoardo Reja eying victory against AS http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Roma-c31603 – Serie A news
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Lazio-c39775 manager Edoardo Reja is eying a victory in the Derby della Capitale when Lazio visit Stadio Olimpico to face bitter city rivals AS Roma, a club that is going through a tumultuous period.
Reja is very keen to have one over the Roman giants who have defeated them twice in the ongoing 2010-11 season- first in the home game in the Serie A and then in the last 32 of the Coppa Italia. Moreover, Edy Reja is also desperate to derail Roma’s hopes of making it to the UEFA Champions League for next season as he looks to defeat the Lupi in the Derby della Capitale.
The Biancocelesti manager knows that the build up to the game has been very intense and a victory away from him will surely boost his side’s chances in qualifying for the biggest club competition in Europe.
While talking to the media, the Italian said, “For us, the derby will be an important match, different from all the others, and we want to get a result.”
The victory is important for both sides as the archrivals have their own separate agendas to deal with. For Lazio, 3 points are important as they look to seal a place in the UEFA Champions League by the end of March 2011 while Roma are currently in 7th place and are still coming to terms with the recent poor displays since the start of the new season.
However, Lazio manager Reja knows that the victory over the enemy will be very important in giving his side a lot of confidence after not being able to beat Roma in two games this season.
Lazio would definitely be keen and desperate to move Roma further away from a place in Europe and has targeted Europa League the minimum for the next season.
He said, “We are keen to distance Roma from qualifying for the Champions League. We are ourselves close to qualifying for at least the Europa League - as this was one of our pre-season objectives - but it is clear we want to reach the Champions League.”
Currently, Lazio are in a pretty good position in the Serie A standings. With 51 points, the Biancocelesti are sitting in 4th place and have a 5-point lead over Roma who are in 7th place. The fixture will be new Roma manager, Vincenzo Montella’s first ever Derby della Capitale. The former Roma striker took charge of Roma when Claudio Ranieri resigned from the post following a poor run of results in which Roma conceded 13 goals in just 4 games.
