Lazio turns to Guiseppe Rossi as Mauro Zarate fails to deliver yet again
If reports in Il Corriere dello Sport are to be believed, the controversial Lazio President Claudio Lotito has made young Italian forward Guiseppe Rossi his primary transfer target.
Claudio’s interest in the Yellow Submarines’ forward is not anything new. Although, the transfer is more likely to materialize in the next summer’s transfer window, it might even be attempted as soon as the January transfer window.
However, much will depend on the form of Mauro Zarate and Pasqual Foggia throughout the season. Zarate has been in poor form since last year only managing three goals in his last twenty nine league appearances. His performance so far hasn’t shown an improvement.
Recently at the end of transfer window, Rossi had publicly stated that he would like to return to Serie A in the future. Juventus were said to be leading the race for his signature but since the arrival of Fabio Quagliarela, the move seems unlikely.
Furthermore, Juventus are also said to be monitoring a next season move for the Sampdoria ace Antonio Cassano. Lotito earlier splashed the cash on the Sao Paolo midfielder, Hernanes this season after the disastrous campaign last year when Lazio narrowly escaped relegation.
Lotito has made his intentions clear by stating that the rebuilding phase hasn’t ended with the purchase of Hernanes. Rossi is reportedly valued at 15 million Euros, a sum Lotito might be able to pay.
Rossi’s performances this season have been good so far, scoring a brace against Espanyol last week. If he continues to put in such performances, his stocks may rise beyond the 15 million Euros mark.
