The victory against Cagliari for Edy Reja’s men has kept their dreams of qualifying for the UEFA Champions League alive, according to their assistant manager.
The Biancocelesti have been hot on the heels in the race for the third and last qualifying spot for the Champions League and after a few inconsistent performances in the Lega over the past few weeks, they
have managed to claw their way into the third position.
They have been competing against Udinese and Napoli for the third position. What made matters interesting for the trio contesting to win a place in Europe, is that all of the teams had been suffering from
a similar kind of form.
The third-spot of the Serie A was up for grabs; however no team was willing to rise up to occasion. After another disappointing day in the office for Udinese and Napoli, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Lazio-c39775 finally secured a victory which
propelled them into that elusive third spot. Francesco Guidolin’s men are in the joint fourth position along with Napoli.
The assistant manager went on to remark about the victory against Cagliari. He was visibly elated after his side went on to leave their streak of losses behind them.  He went on to comment:
“We played well, with patience and concentration, creating quite a few scoring opportunities. At the start we lacked a bit of weight in attack, which is why we changed the situation after the break.”
The Biancazzurri victory coupled with the draws of Udinese and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Napoli-c40003 in their respective matches meant that they leapfrogged the two clubs into the third position. Now they are three points clear of the
two sides.
Lopez was hopeful of continuing this form into the remaining nine matches of the Serie A, and would be looking to further cement their passage to the Champions League. Reja’s http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Junior-c20060 further commented on the
impact that European football had on their domestic form, stating:
“We suffered a great deal when playing in the Europa League, especially as we had no strength in depth. We are in better shape physically even if there are still important players on the treatment table.
Hopefully when they return we’ll still be in the race for third.”
Reja has not hidden the fact that their team has suffered from their losses to injury over the course of the season.
