Lazy P defeats SaraBoca by 9-11 to clinch USPA National President Cup
Mario Dino and Nick Snow scored five goals each and had an assist to carry Lazy P to an 11-9 victory over SaraBoca in the title-claiming fight of the United States Polo Association (USPA) National President Cup. The cliff-hanging contest was held at the
International Polo Club in Wellington, city of Florida.
The duo teams started the game quite aggressively but could only score three goals in the first seven and half minutes of play. It was not anyone else other than SaraBoca that drew the first blood, through a couple of goals in the hands of Wesley Finlayson
and Gringo Colombres. However, the attackers of Lazy P were not sitting motionless, as Nick Snow scored a goal from the field to bring his team into the score-net. Lazy P trailed by one goal at the end of the first set of play.
The Lazy P attacker cranked up their offence and scored a couple of goals, while holding SaraBoca off the score-board in the period. John Gobin and Mario Dino scored one goal each and led the period by a single point, 3-2.
In the third set of play, Dino marked another two goals, of which one came on a spot shot while other from the field. In the later time, Snow converted a penalty shot to put his team ahead on the score-board. Colombres could only score a solitary goal for
SaraBoca in the period and trailed by three points, 6-3 at the halftime.
The pace of the game continued to increase with the passage of the game. Dino scored another goal from the field to expand the Lazy P lead up to four goals. But Colombres in a counter-offence added a goal to the SaraBoca's score. Another Lazy P goal went
up on the score-board from Snow to close out the period with Lazy P hanging on to a four-goal, 8-4 advantage.
SaraBoca revved it up in the fourth set of play and scored four goals, while limiting Lazy P only for a single point. Colombres and Finlayson scored two goals apiece and had it all even at 8-8. But Snow connected on a penalty-shot to regain their narrow
lead, 9-8.
The final set of play was also dominated by Lazy P, which picked up a couple of goals, while holding SaraBoca only for a single score. Snow and Dino scored one goal apiece and expanded the lead up to three points. Ricky Bostwick scored the first goal of
the day for SaraBoca, but to no avail. Lazy P won the game by a couple of points and as well captured the title of the tournament.
Nick Snow and Mario Dino set the pace for Lazy P with five goals apiece, while Gobin added a single goal in the win.
On the other side, Colombres too scored five points while Finlayson and Bostwick scored three and one goal respectively in the loss.
Colombres was named as MVP, while his pony, Kumbia, was chosen as Best Playing Pony of the tournament.
