Lazy eye surgery?

I have a lazy eye and I really hate it. My doctor told me I could have surgery to have it fixed and I was wondering if anyone has had it before and if it hurts? I really want to do it but Im afraid it'll hurt.

  1. Every surgery hurts no mater whether its something more serious. It also depends how your body takes it,everyone is different. Some people heal faster then others. But also be careful, you never know what and how it all ends up.Talk with your family and the doctor before doing anything.Good luck!

  2. I've had strabismus surgery and it was more inconvenient than painful  (and the whites of my eyes were really spectacularly blood-coloured for a couple of weeks)

    But it's important to distinguish:

There is no surgery for "lazy eye", which is poor vision due to amblyopia.

What can be surgically treated is the turn, squint, strabismus, which is often present with a lazy eye.  The surgery won't improve the eye's vision, only its alignment.

The confusion arises because both are often present at the same time: but it is possible to have amblyopia, "lazy eye" without a turn, strabismus, and a strabismus without a lazy eye.

To tackle the poor vision in a lazy eye requires patching the good eye and eye exercises... It has been shown to work, at least for some, at older ages than used to be thought feasible.

If there is no binocular "lock" holding the two eyes straight after surgery,  over the course of years the wandering eye may slowly drift out of alignment again.

  3. You should ask your doctor, there are many different surgeries for lazy eyes, and although it might hurt temporarily, the effect it will have on your self confidence is permanent.
