Ok I'm buying a flat screen lcd tv 42" 1080p so I'm doing some searching before I buy it, but whats is the difference between contrast ratio and dynamic ratio, which is better? and why?

this are my choices so far:

phillips 42 1080p Contrast Ratio: 3000:1

lg 42 1080p contrast ratio 10000:1

vizio 42 1080p contrast ratio 1500:1

  1. contrast ratio is the difference between the darkest black and the lightest white so a tv with more contrast ratio tends to have black instead of gray.   but i am going to by the vizio 42 inch in a couple of months.

  2. There's an awful lot of hype on contrast ratios, and it depends a lot on your room lighting conditions and screen reflectivity. Most real-world  measured contrast ratios are in the hundreds, not thousands.

My recommendation would be to go *look* at the TVs. Find a shop that actually sets up the TVs properly (many don't). If you go to the store and find that the color balance and contrasts of TVs on display vary wildly, then don't draw any conclusions from them. Find another store.

Unfortunately, I don't have any recommendations on good stores to go to for evaluating TVs.
