Le Beau Bai put down after failing to recover
Le Beau Bai was put down after failing to recover from a serious injury. He had a broken pelvis and was in serious pain last night, thus his trainer, Richard Lee, decided to make the difficult decision after consulting the owners.
“He broke his pelvis four weeks ago to the day," said Lee. "It can be a very difficult time with these injuries because you have a period when you have to keep them very heavily sedated and then you have to take them off the pain killers and they can get
too fresh.”
He added that Le Beau Bai was recovering with the passage of time and he would have made a comeback pretty soon in the sport. However, things got worse for him overnight and the vet advised to put him down in the end.
Remembering some good moments with the seasoned stallion, Lee said, “He gave us one of our bigger days. The four that stand out are two Cheltenham festival winners, a Martell Cup and the Welsh National was probably right up there. He was not just a good
horse, he had a lovely personality. I had to make the phone call to the owners and it wasn't easy.”
His owners, the Glass Half Full partnership, were saddened at the loss of the champion horse, who won them numerous events. They tagged him as one of their best servants and stated that he was probably the best horse they had available.
The Cadoudal’s son debuted in 2007 and showed his class right from the start of his career. He managed to succeed in a couple of back-to-back events and went onto make his team proud on quite a few occasions afterwards. He always shined in the most difficult
conditions and never let his team down.
Overall, the 10-year-old gelding participated in 42 races, winning 12 of them whereas finished as a runner up once. In addition to that, he claimed the third spot on seven times, which shows that he always challenged his rivals for the top-three positions.
Le Beau Bai was a very good jumper, so he preferred running over hurdles and fences. He will definitely be remembered as one of the toughest fighters of all time.
