Le Toreador likely to prevail in Egerton House Stables Handicap
Le Toreador is likely to prevail in the Egerton House Stables Handicap at Newmarket in England on Thursday, July 12, 2012. A victory in the class-3 race will earn him a cash prize of £9,704.
The going will be soft in the 5 furlong event, which is scheduled to start at 16:40 GMT. A total of 20 runners were initially confirmed for action at Newmarket, but that number may come down because of the change in track conditions.
However, the soft ground will not really bother Le Toreador, who has run in such conditions in the past as well. He has been given a starting price of 10 to 1 by the bookmakers and the punters will also risk some money on him, as he is an experienced campaigner.
The seven-year-old gelding has participated in 56 events until now, but does not have a good winning percentage. He has been triumphant in 13 races whereas finished runner up on five times as well. In addition to that, he has secured the third spot on three
occasions, which shows that he is fully capable of fighting at the front.
In the 2007 season, Le Toreador made his first appearance in the sport and took part in three races that year. He finished fifth in his maiden race and followed that up with a couple of back to back fourth place finishes. Although he was unable to make a
big impression, yet he displayed decent skills.
The start to the 2008 season was not a very good one for the Kevin Ryan’s trainee, as he struggled in the first couple of races. However, he finally broke the shackles, winning three consecutive events that year.
Since then, the seasoned runner delivered some consistent results at different venues. There were a few lows in his career as well, but his trainer kept on working hard with him. He has participated in just three events this year, winning one of them whereas
struggled in the other two.
Despite being a touch inconsistent in the current season, Le Toreador will be a threat for his rivals. He will be accompanied by veteran jockey, Phillip Makin, who has won quite a few events in his career and is a confident rider.
