LeBron James, Dwyane Wade dominate as Miami Heat breeze past Orlando Magic 90 – 78 – NBA Recap
The Miami Heat avenged an earlier defeat by the Orlando Magic with an emphatic 90 – 78 victory on Sunday. The Heat dominated the game at the American Airlines Arena and had the star duo of LeBron James and Dwyane Wade to thank for scintillating performances.
James was as decisive as ever, putting up splendid numbers at 25 points, 11 rebounds and 8 assists, falling just short of another triple-double. On the other hand, Dwyane Wade was in the zone as he scored a game high 27 points, shooting 13-of-23 from the
field, and also had 6 rebounds.
"I'm taking high percentage shots. I'm just in the groove. You know it comes a time in this game you're going to miss a lot. You're going to have a couple games you can't find that groove. Then you're going to have some where you have it. I'm just taking
advantage of it." Dwyane said, explaining his good form of late.
The Heat only had Udonis Haslem in double figures apart from James and Wade but that didn’t matter much when they had such a comfortable ride. The overall performance from Miami was very good but coach Erik Spoelstra said after the game that he was keeping
his feet firmly on the ground.
"We want to make sure that we're keeping things in perspective, we're staying humble and understanding that NBA adage - you're never quite as good as you think you are when you're winning and you're never quite as bad as you think you are when you're losing,"
For the Magic, it was a day to forget. Super star centre Dwight Howard had a frustrating night, scoring 12 and hauling down 15 rebounds for his double-double. He lacked support as the only other players worth mentioning were J.J. Redick, 17 points, and Quentin
Richardson, 10 points and 9 boards.
Miami started the game aggressively and used a 12 – 5 spurt at the jump to gain control of the first quarter. They continued to attack, stretching their lead to double digits before the Magic recovered to end the period trailing at 22 – 19.
Orlando had an 8 – 2 burst to open the second segment, taking the lead at 27 – 24. From thereon in though, the Heat took over. Miami launched a ferocious 12 – 0 rally that put them in command at 36 – 27 and ended the first half with a 7 – 2 burst to make
it 43 – 31.
Any hopes Orlando might have had of a recovery coming out of the interval were shot down as Miami scored 27 in the 3rd stanza. The Magic could only manage 23 in return, going further behind before the final quarter at 70 – 54.
The penultimate frame was pretty much a formality and the Heat didn’t have many problems in closing out the win, final score 90 – 78.
