LeBron James: Los Angeles Lakers made the right play at the death against Oklahoma City Thunder – NBA Playoffs Update
The Los Angeles Lakers lost game-2 of their Western Conference Semi Final matchup with the Oklahoma City Thunder right at the end after Steve Blake missed a 3-pointer that would have given them the win. Some people have questioned whether Blake should have
been the one handed the ball in such a crunch situation, but LeBron James believes the right play was made.
James and the Miami Heat lost game-2 of their series against the Indiana Pacers under similar circumstances. Miami had a chance to go up 2-0 in the Eastern Conference Semi Final series but Mario Chalmers missed his last ditch shot attempt.
James and Dwyane Wade were perhaps the two players Miami would have wanted to take the last shot, and with the Lakers it was definitely legendary super star Kobe Bryant. LeBron though has backed the play made by Los Angeles, one that saw Blake take an ill
fated shot.
"I thought it was a great play, you know my answer," James said Thursday.
Metta World Peace was originally intended to pass to Kobe so he could put up the final shot, but the Thunder stifled that outlet and Peace instead found an open Blake. The fact that Blake just wasn’t able to make the shot doesn’t take away from the decision,
in LeBron’s point of view.
"The person that should be very happy is Russell (Westbrook), he (got) caught peeking in the paint and left a very good shooter open. Those are the same shots Derek Fisher has hit multiple times for the Lakers. If Steve Blake makes that shot, it's a whole
different storyline."
Derek Fisher though was on the side of the Thunder and not the Lakers, as Los Angeles had traded him away at the deadline. Kobe had initially seemed frustrated at not getting the ball on the final play, but has since admitted that Metta did choose the better
option, and the Lakers just didn’t get a rub of the green.
"You know how it works," James said. "(Metta World Peace) made the perfect (decision) and (Blake) just missed it. You know I've been there before. It was a great play."
