LeBron James bags MVP honours for the third time in his career – NBA Update
Miami Heat`s All-Star forward LeBron James is all set to be the recipient of the Most Valuable Award for the third time in his career. He will be given the honours before the start of the second round series when the Heat play
hosts to Indiana Pacers. NBA Commissioner, David Stern will present James with the trophy for his spectacular performances throughout the season.
However the source that was familiar with the decision revealed it under condition of anonymity. Even though the announcement has not been officially made, James is a worthy contender of the title.
Being a third time winner of the best individual award the league has to offer will put James among the all-time greats like Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Michael Jordan, Bill Russell, Wilt Chamberlain, Larry Bird, Magic Johnson and Moses
Malone who have also won the award thrice in their careers.
Since his arrival in the top league of the basketball world, James has taken the NBA by storm. Only four players in NBA history have won the prestigious award more than him, Abdul-Jabbar a Six time MVP, Jordan and Russell 5 time
MVP`s and Chamberlain has won the award 4 times in his career.
However James has his eyes set not only on individual honours but helping his team reap benefits for his outstanding prowess on the court. James spoke on Friday about the possibility of him earning the  MVP title and called it
a great honour for him but he also went on to contemplate that winning the NBA Championship with his team has got a higher priority.
"What I'm all about is team and ever since I was a kid, I was always taught it's team first," James on Friday. "My first time playing basketball, we went undefeated and won a championship and Frank Walker Sr. gave everyone on the
team a MVP trophy. Right then and there, I knew that this is what I wanted to do. I wanted to see my teammates reap the benefits as well."
LeBron has averaged 27.1 points this season to go along with 7.9 rebounds and 6.2 assists making him the best player in the league. His toughest competition for the throne came from three time scoring champion, Kevin Durant, who
came out publically to say that James deserves to be the MVP this season.
