LeBron James believes Derrick Rose leads the MVP race this season – NBA update
After Hall of Famer Boston Celtics’ coach Doc Rivers and Orlando’s Stan Van Gundy put their weight behind the Chicago Bulls point guard earlier this month, Derrick Rose has received a shot in the arm from the unlikeliest of venues. On Wednesday, the two-time
reigning Most Valuable Player (MVP) LeBron James, who appeared to be the run-away winner of a third consecutive MVP title until the All-Star game, said that he believes Rose is rightfully the front-runner to clinch the Maurice Podoloff Trophy this season.
The debate on who will become this season’s MVP is reaching its final stages and the general consensus continues to support the second year All-Star guard Derrick Rose extensively.
LeBron stated, "I think [it's] Derrick Rose. What he's done for that team, with all the injuries they have and them being first in the Eastern Conference -- they're playing some really good basketball." James, who is still a contender for the MVP title,
is shooting a career-high 50.4 this season from the field and is averaging 26.5 points, 7.5 rebounds and 6.9 assists.
Although the Heat’s forward deems his performance this year as strong enough to lift the trophy a third consecutive time, he said that the sharp-shooting Derrick has acquired a lot of exposure and media attention due to his unbelievable basketball for the
Bulls.
Rose was very surprised to have James endorsement in this regard. He said that it’s a big moment for him to be supported by LeBron. Especially because James has won the MVP title two times in a row and has the allure to win it every year.
Rose stated, "I'm just trying to drive them. I'm trying to get better in becoming a leader, being more vocal, but I'm coming along with that. My teammates have been helping me out, the veterans have been talking to me, just talking a little bit more in practice.
But if anything, I try to lead by example."
The star guard is having a phenomenal year, placing Chicago on the top in the Eastern Conference with his formidable play on the court. Rose is firing on all cylinders and averaging 25 points and showing no signs of retreat. He continues to provide fireworks
on the front court and supports the defense massively. The team chemistry is building well and the Bulls are turning out to be the toughest runners for the championship title in the East.
The MVP title is awarded based on a player’s solo performance and Miami’s superstars might have lost that charm this season. James, Wade and Bosh have performed exceptionally well and have picked the right moments to excel. However, they have not proven
they can win a game alone. A dramatic slump was witnessed when one of the three was not seen in the starting five when injuries struck the team.
Rose has an edge on all the best players in the league for spearheading his team successfully. He is one of the few players who have assisted the team on the top single-handedly. That is the only reason Derrick stands obvious chances to nab the MVP award
this year.
