LeBron James eagerly waiting for the 2012 London Olympics – NBA Update
LeBron James, the Miami Heat super star, has committed to the 2012 London Olympic Games. LeBron said in a recent interview that he was very much on board for the Olympic Games and would love to represent his country at the international
sports event.
Olympics are considered the biggest international stage for many sports worldwide. Basketball is no different and the USA is anticipating gold medal in the sport once the time comes. The United States is the biggest market of the
sport on the planet and boasts some a plethora of talent unmatched anywhere else.
The best basketball players walking the planet belong to the United States and the country is an overwhelming favourite for any basketball tournament. The NBA, the lucrative domestic basketball league of the United States, gives
American athletes a great platform to develop and hone their skills and they can then use them to dominate the international landscape.
LeBron James is arguably the best player alive today and his participation in the games would be a huge boost to the USA. Many star players sometimes do not turn up for the Olympics in the United States because of other commitments
but LeBron has come on record saying that he would love to participate and would give his all when the nation calls,
“I’m committed. I can’t wait for it – to have an opportunity to go to London and defend our gold medal from Beijing. It’s going to be great. I’ve always loved the Olympics just to be around the athletes from all over the world.
Not only in my country but to see all of the athletes, it’s so fun… I have a great deal respect for all other athletes that are competing as well.”
James was part of the US team for the 2008 Olympics. That side boasted some of the biggest names in the game and was dubbed the Redeem Team by fans around the world. The team won matches by an average gap of around 22 points in
the tournament on their way to claiming Olympic Gold.
The Beijing Olympics therefore represented a landmark success for the United States and fans have since been clamouring to see more of their beloved superstars in a United States uniform. The win in 2008 came after the 2004 Olympics
team had failed to win gold to the frustration of the country and humiliation of American basketball.
James also touched on the difference between the two sides,
“I think we didn’t have enough time to come together. The ‘08 team made a three-year commitment. Every summer we got together for that time. The ‘04 team was kind of just put together and I don’t think that we became a team fast
enough for that.”
